Tequatl the Sunless: Test Runs [Jade Reapers & Friends]
« on: March 01, 2014, 12:05:31 AM »
"Brothers! Sisters! Reapers! Ready yourselves! Tequatl is here!". Yes you've read it right, Jade Reapers have decided to take down Tequatl the Sunless.

We are not talkin about a community run here, we are talkin about Jade Reapers and their friends tackling down the beast of Sparkfly Fen.

But before this becomes a routine we have to make sure that everyone knows what to do, so we are starting with our test runs this Sunday, March 2nd before our weekly Guild Missions so make sure to be there.

More details will be revealed soon!!

Date: March 2nd, Sunday [SUCCESS]
Time: READ THE IN GAME GUILD MESSAGE

-----------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT: During the run you HAVE to be on TS, you dont need to use the mic, you just have to listen!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The whole strategy will be explained on TS before the run! But this is worth reading Lannahs words!

Please bring only lvl80 characters, preferably elementalists, mesmers, guardians or warriors. Other classes are welcome as well, but those usually carry the event. Condition builds are fairly useless unless you're on defence duty. Power based builds are best (power/toughness/vitality); zerk is good for defence, but note that only 20 defenders are needed.

Everybody: I recommend that you turn down your video settings. Turning off Reflections will make it easier for you to see incoming waves, for example.

Everybody: Pay attention to saychat/mapchat. Do not spam it - keep it clean so the commander can give orders there if necessary.

Everybody: You will die and that's fine, but when you do, do not wait for a rez - waypoint!

People in attack zerg: Stack on the commander! This means touch asses, not "stand nearby". This helps with AoE heals and quick rezzes, plus you don't spread the dragon's AoE damage fields all over the beach. Pay attention - if the commander moves, you move!

People in attack zerg: You will mostly do ranged dmg, so bring appropriate weapons. Melee and ele conjured weapons during burn phases and battery defences ofc.

Everybody: bring a stun breaker utility skill and save it for when Fear hits you. That fear lasts forever and if too many people get feared into the turrets, champions can spawn there and smash turrets and defenders alike.

Everybody: once fingers spawn, ignore the dragon and focus the fingers around the zerg (but stay stacked on the commander, so just range them). Once fingers are gone, refocus on the dragon.

Everybody: if fingers are up once battery defence phase starts, run to your assigned batteries, but try to hit some fingers while you're running away from the beach (but do not stay on the beach too long, you can't leave those batteries unattended). The beach needs to be clear before the dragon respawns after battery defence.

Everybody: Do not place useless sh*t like merchant NPCs or Boxes of Fun or whatever on the attack zerg. It makes it difficult to pick up ele weapons and rez people.

Everybody: Buy Fiery Elemental Powders and Ogre Pet Whistles ahead of time. You might feel like you don't need those or you just can't be bothered, but they are VERY useful during burn phases if our dps sucks. Do not let others carry your weight and just go and get those consumables! Save them for the burn phases (so don't use them on battery defence or during the normal attack phases). Do not use them unless the commander calls for it.

Everybody: During normal defence and battery defence, prioritize Hypnoss mobs, because they spawn adds. Abominations and Risen Plague Carriers explode, so be careful, don't facetank them - kick/fear them AWAY from the eastern battery! Do not kill Bloated Creepers next to the turrets or next to the zerg. Grubs place AoE damage, so use reflections and kill them asap (champ grubs especially!).

Guardians: bring stability and Wall of Reflection. When fingers spawn (if possible, do it before they spawn - the commander might call out "Fingers up!" a second before they spawn), pop walls and create a box around the attack zerg (to block projectiles from fingers - fingers throw down heavy AoE dmg fields that can easily down light-armored players). DO NOT place light fields on the attack zerg!

Mesmers: bring Feedback. As soon as fingers spawn, place Feedback on them. You need to be quick with that. Clear fingers around the beach. You do not need to hit the dragon to get the full reward, so don't worry, just protect the zerg from fingers and attack the dragon if the beach is clear. When battery defence starts, clean the beach of all fingers - but be sure to tag some mobs on the batteries as well and get event completion, else you don't get a full reward - so be quick with it. Also kill the fingers around and between the turrets - if turreteers get finger fields on them, they can't cleanse the attack zerg, the zerg dies, our dps sucks and the event fails. If a champion grub spawns anywhere (usually on turret defence, more rarely on megalaser battery defence), drop whatever you're doing and rush there to kill it. Save your Timewarps for the burn phases (after each battery defence).

Elementalists: Keep placing healing fields on the attack zerg. The more people go down, the worse our dps is. Place conjured weapons: Ice Bow and the elite Fiery Greatsword. Do not use the Greatsword on battery defence - save it for the burn phase instead.

Warriors: Do not use banners - it makes it difficult to pick up ele weapons. Place the elite rezbanner when you see a bunch of people down. If you are still using Banner of Discipline against mobs that do not take critical damage, format c:

Other classes: Be awesome. Blast those water fields so we get some AoE heals.

Battery defence phase: North defenders (including turreteers) take West battery, South defenders (including turreteers) take North battery, attack zerg split between Megalaser and East battery. Use jumping pads to get there quickly. Spread around the battery, because mobs will spawn from all sides. Note that North def is sometimes called West def and South def is sometimes called East def (it's only confusing till you realize that it's just a name for those 15 people and that it doesn't matter what you call them).

West battery: focus fingers and kite mobs away from the battery.
North battery: Stomp grubholes. Stomp first, kill stuff after, because those holes spawn vet grubs that place heavy aoe fields - you can handle the Krait afterwards (the grubs are worse, so stomp that). Each player keeps an eye on one or two holes and keeps stomping them.
East battery: Probably the most difficult one - knock back and immobilize and fear away Abominations. They are the big dudes that move slowly and explode when they die (the ones on the beach are called Bloated Creepers). If they explode on the battery, you fail. Also watch out for Plague Carriers - those also explode and can instadown people.
Megalaser: Focus the Champion Krait Hypnoss that spawns between the west battery and the megalaser. Also watch out for any Champion Grubs - if that thing spawns, you need to scream like a baby for everybody to snipe it asap.

If battery health is above 90% with 25 seconds left on the clock of battery defence, everybody leaves the batteries at 20seconds left and runs to the beach, stacks might and gets ready for the burn phase.

Oh, turreteers: If a finger throws a field on you, don't shout for a cleanse. Get off the turret, heal up, get back on and cleanse yourself. If your turret has taken damage (usually a single damage field that cannot be cleansed will take the turret down by 50%), get off and repair it. You can ask someone from defence or the turret mesmer to do that, but ultimately your turret is your responsibility. Be quick though, because the attack zerg will die without your cleanses. And I'd better not see more than 7 stacks of scales on the dragon either! Turreteers also form their own parties (one on north, one on south), so it's easier for them to see when a turreteer DCs and they can call for a replacement.

I'm probably forgetting something here, but whatever, I'll edit later.

Isn't this in the wrong section of the forum?

Some lines for future runs that we can copy-paste into mapchat from here (I think each one should fit into a single chat line):

Turn down your vid settings. Turning off Reflections will make it easier for you to see incoming waves. Pay attention to saychat and don't spam it. Do NOT place merchants or anything else on the zerg.

Everybody: You will die and that's fine, but when you do, do not wait for a rez - WAYPOINT! Always rez the downed, but do not waste time rezzing the dead.

People in attack zerg: Stack on the commander! This means touch asses, not "be in the same area". Pay attention - when the commander moves, you MOVE! You will mostly do ranged dmg, so equip appropriate weapons.

Bring a STUN BREAKER utility skill and SAVE IT for when Fear hits you. Once fingers spawn, ignore the dragon and focus on the fingers around the zerg (but stay stacked on the commander).

Elementalists: Keep placing healing fields on the attack zerg. Use conjured Frost Bow and the elite Fiery Greatsword during attack and burn. Do not waste the Greatsword on battery defence.

Warriors: DO NOT use banners! It makes it difficult to pick up ele weapons. DO place the elite rezbanner when you see a bunch of people down.

Mesmers: Feedback. As soon as fingers spawn, place Feedback on them (be quick). When battery defence starts, first clean the beach of all fingers. If a champ grub spawns, go kill it.

Guardians: stability and Wall of Reflection. When fingers spawn, pop walls in every direction AROUND the attack zerg (but not directly on the zerg). Keep walls up while fingers are up. Heal the people around you if you can.

Battery defence: North-west defenders+turreteers take West battery, South-east defenders+turreteers take North battery, attack zerg split evenly between Megalaser and East battery. Use jumping pads to get there quickly.

Always kill HYPNOSS mobs first! If a Champ Grub spawns tho, Feedback and kill that asap. Abominations and Plague Carriers EXPLODE, so kick/fear them AWAY from the eastern battery!

Spread around the batteries, coz mobs spawn from all sides. NORTH stomp grubholes asap, EAST focus Abominations, MEGA focus Champ Hypnoss and/or Grub. If your battery needs more players, call people from Megalaser.

Once the dragon comes out of his stun phase (his head moves), immediately restack on the commander and prepare to dodge(!) the waves. Dodge -towards- the wave if you can't see it clearly.

I'm also adding an image of the dragon's health percentages, so you can learn how to tell approximately when the next battery phase is starting:

75% is above :
50% is under the e in Sunless
25% is under the t in the

I forgot- thanks all who participated, did promo for the event and paid for armor repair costs. Thanks also go to Xicer and Farnz, coz they pretty much organized defence on their own. And ofc the turreteers <3

Just a few impressions after the first kill:

Banner of Discipline  :o

We need better DPS... by keeping the zerg from dying so much. We weren't able to outheal the damage fields, so I chose to keep restacking instead of tanking the same spot - and sometimes I only had like 10 people restack with me. So yeah, people need to either learn how blasts on healing fields work (good luck with that) or to immediately restack outside of damage fields when the big red circles with green and black smoke appear. You can see when they are about to appear if you look at the dragon's animation: he rears back a bit then extends his right arm/leg/paw forward and keeps it there.
Once we get more people to show up on time instead of 5min before event, warriors could also be assigned numbers for warbanners (like in WvWvW), so we don't get 10 banners on the first mass down and zero on the second one. I would prefer it if the zerg simply didn't go down at all, however, so learn to expect the waves, always restack, heal each other and use reflection skills against fingers (ele focus Swirling Winds works too).

And attackers need to PICK UP the ele weapons! ...all those wasted fiery greatswords  :'(

Finger killing needs to be faster as well - perhaps I didn't stress this enough today. The 5-man party behind Tequatl can't kill every finger on the beach (they can't stray far from that area anyway, because the Creepers keep respawning behind Teq), so defenders and mesmers should help out. Fingers don't just kill the zerg; they also kill turreteers, so clear the ones in front of the turrets as well.

I would like us to reach the first battery defence phase (75% health) with at least 8 minutes left on the event counter.

Battery defence needs to be better. We need to be able to abandon the batteries with like 20 seconds left on the timer and go prepare for burn (gather on the double damage spot and stack might).

We might want to teach our guildies how Fiery Rush on the Fiery Greatsword works, esp. in combination with Blink etc.

By the way, did anyone see who that fourth/troll commander was? Somebody tagged up on the attack zerg. I can only assume that their intention was to get us to fail by trolling us, since we kept asking for people to "stack on the commander" in saychat.

Ok, I'm done  :-X
